Posted by kathie on January 21, 2012

The SOSL (Southwest Ohio Swim League, the league we are in) is working on the schedule for this season. If you didn’t recieve the emailed survey, you can click here to share your thoughts. Thank you for taking the time to complete the survey.

end of season carry-in, awards & pool party!

Posted by kathie on July 17, 2011

Tuesday, July 19 is the Gator end of season party. We’ll start with a carry-in at 6:00 (bring a dish or two to share, your choice of beverage and table service for your family), then the coaches will hand out trophies (The High Point Award, The Most Improved and The Gator Award) and ribbons and then they have to be patient while everyone thanks them again and again for being amazing people & coaches! After the awards, head over to the pool for a Gator Family-only swim party. We’ll have the pool until 9:00 PM. Then it’s good-bye to 2011 and see you in April at sign-ups!

let’s finish strong at preble county

Posted by kathie on July 11, 2011

The final dual meet of the season is Tuesday, July 12 and is our make-up date at Preble County (Eaton). Remember this meet will run backwards (like at Idle Hour) but since we did get the Free Relays and a couple of heats of Butterfly in, we’ll start where we left off.

The work detail is the same as it was for the June 21 meet so if you signed up to work that meet you are required to either work that shift at Eaton or find a replacement.

As with all away meets we need to be on deck by 5:15 for 5:30 warm-ups. Remember to bring all the usual stuff: caps, goggles, towels, blankets, UMBRELLAS, snacks. And check in with Amanda (or another board member if Amanda is not available) so you can get credit for your work assignment.

Did you forget how to get there?

gator spirit & community service week

Posted by kathie on July 8, 2011

The week before SOSL Championships is always an exciting one and this season is no different. In addition to a non-league meet at Forest Hills (scroll down for that post) and the continuation of a rained-out meet at Preble County, this is the week when swimmers get to show their spirit for the Gators by participating in theme days all week long.
Monday: Hippie Day
Tuesday: Super Hero Day
Wednesday: Sports Team Day
Thursday: Country Day
Friday: Coach Appreciation & Gator Green Day

And this year we’re adding yet another way for Gator swimmers to show their spirit for the team and the Valley View community with our first annual Food Drive. Swimmers will receive a ticket each time they donate (not one ticket per item) and we will draw tickets for prizes at the Spaghetti Dinner on Friday, July 15. If you have not already signed up to bring a food item for the Spaghetti Dinner, please see Debbie at practices or meets.

help request (plea, actually)

Dear Gator Families,
After reviewing our roster and comparing it with the Meet Job Sheets we have discovered that we will need 69 more shifts covered in order to fully staff the remainder of the season. With only 65 families it will again be necessary to ask anyone who is able to step up and work above and beyond the 5 halves+Invitational requirement laid out at registration.
We know that all of our families are very generous with their time…take today for example when it took about 5 minutes to fill in the empty slots for Invitational!…and we’re counting on you yet again. The truth is that our meets would not be possible without an incredible amount of volunteering from the families. So please consider signing up for an extra half meet (or two!) Feel free to recruit teenage siblings, aunts, uncles, grandparents. Timers get the best view of the pool! Scoring and ribbons get shady seats! Lane slip runners get lots of exercise! Concessions workers make hungry people happy!
We hear compliments often from parents and guests of the Gators that meets in Germantown run smoothly and quickly and we always tell people that it’s because there are GREAT FAMILIES with lots of enthusiasm and experience who all come together to make summer swim fun for everyone.
Amanda Bowman will be at the meet on Tuesday evening with all the sign-up sheets.
Thank you all in advance for stepping up!
